hello there….

Like every journal/blog on the ‘net, some days, this one is about not much of anything. Other days, I post new artwork, various inspirations, exhibit invites, photos, web clippings, links and even VIDEO! My artwork currently relies heavily on handmade paper, oil stick, etc. Photos are not retouched, unless noted.

Photos and artwork are available for viewing @ galleries or you can check out my work at flickr or even more work (either art videos or really really silly video at my youtube site. ) I’m always up to something new it seems, and I keep a list of art related websites here. If you’re looking for my writings on web2.0 stuff, drop me a line. Please pardon the dust. I’m in between designs. I’m not sure when I’ll get updated.

Okay, I’ll confess. I think this is a site redesign issue. I realize that many of you have followed me over to flickr or are reading my work (IT/metadata) blog and that is fine, too. I’ll email out an update when I start this up again. and sorry.

Just a heads up that I’m testing new blog & cms both, textpattern and also wordpress. Although I have enjoyed using ee and I kind of hate to leave it, I think it’s probably time for me to finally part ways with the ee community. I need something which is more supportive of the life of an artist, because you know what, I hope that one day I’m rich and famous, but I’m not counting on it.... which means that I don’t have extra $ for upgrades or to buy the commercial version. Honestly, it’s silly that big & little companies pay the same price.

Anyhow. stay tuned. I will post the new url, when I’ve moved everything.

seeking new video editor

I am looking for a new video editing software and I’m wondering if anyone has tried the latest version of jahshaka (v2 rc3) and if so, how does it compare to ulead videostudio 11? Any other suggestions?

I have cable modem (100M transfer, which is the highest offered in my hood), 2G processor and 233G external harddrive (which is where all of my images/video stuff goes); only 64G harddrive (I know… but I’m trying to make do until I can buy a new desktop). I also don’t want to spend a ton of money on software, either.

I’m primarily working with mov, avi, mpg video files; jpg or png image files; mp3 audio files; occasionally dvd files (willing to go look for a converter for those, if needed).

I’m looking for:

*something that will run well on my computer

*relatively low learning curve (I’m a graphics person; well versed in most of those kind of apps; but don’t want to spend a loong time learning something new).

*file format support for the above

*at least a few basic effects, as I’m mostly putting together tutorials or short movies for personal or youtube use, shot with either a digital cam with video output = mov file on sd card, or a digital video camera with video output = avi on dv tape—in short, not pro.

*output in a variety of formats & compression, so that I can youtube the ones that go there, burn CDs/DVDs, or upload to my own websites.

I’ve used windows moviemaker (ok, but limited and kind of um… not so great), imovie (no longer access to mac), sony vegas (not sure I liked), adobe premiere (ok, no longer access), nero (bleech), and I’m looking for something better—ulead sounds good as does jahshaka.

Lessons learned about blogging daily

SO, this whole blogging daily thing has been a big experiment for me. I find that my blogging waxes and wanes, depending on lots of things.

Positive impacts: time, creativity, making art, comments

negative impacts: no time/overworked, lack of creativity, not making art, feeling like no one reads this

As for the creativity aspect, that’s something I just can’t force. I know some writers/artists who will just write/create anything as a means to break the block. Not me—when I’m having a creative block, it means 1)I’m stuck in a rut with the medium of my choosing and I need to make some sort of change 2)more interested in something which doesn’t fall into traditional art or 3)just tired and burned out (resolution: rest and no art).

I’m not sure where I am at the moment. The arts magazine is going pretty well and I’m putting in a lot of energy to get that going. My freelance gigs, welll… we won’t talk about those for now.

Anyhow, that’s the scoop. I’d rather not post everyday if it means something boring or completely banal.

Okay, maybe not ALL of that, but I think I’m too tired to do much of anything today. Jeepers, how do people post everyday?

..and some people like this guy post an image of themselves everyday for 6 years? Really amazing.

Anyhow, I promise something more interesting tomorrow. Perhaps, some artwork I haven’t posted yet...and I think my archives are f%$#ed.
